The files below contain all of our field notes from all of our interviews in Indermark. It should be noted that the "questions" and "answers" are not verbatim; we chose the Q&A format for the sake of clarity, and were forced also to paraphrase much of what we learned, due to the difficulty of communicating between persons whose first language is not the same (i.e., we speak English and not Sepedi, while all of our interviewees speak Sepedi and bad English if any).
This file contains notes on our interviews with the staff at the crèche: three teachers, the cook and the gardener. The last staff member, the principal, is Frederica Ralephata, and the notes on our interview with her are in "Field Notes 3."
This file contains the notes on our interview with several parents of crèche children.
Field Notes 3 - Principal Interview.doc
This file contains the notes on our several interviews with Frederica Ralephata, the principal of Tšwelopele Crèche. It is likely more notes will follow in the weeks and months to come.
Adam Ward is a former Agricultural Extension Officer who has been extremely helpful in brainstorming organic techniques for fertilization and pest control. He also, subsequent to this interview, gave us numerous printouts on those two topics. Furthermore, he helped us locate Laucky, the current extension officer in our area. Adam has been very enthusiastic, which is energizing for us both.
Laucky (surname unknown) is the current Agricultural Extension Officer in this region. He's also a master's student studying composting techniques. He is going to help us with our soil analysis of the crèche garden and will also conduct a training at the crèche on proper gardening technique.
Juanita du Plessis is the dietitian at Louis Trichardt Public Hospital. We spoke with her extensively about early childhood nutrition.
Another conversation with Retha Gaigher, the principle benefactor of the Tšwelopele Crèche.

Jonas (a retired secondary school teacher) and Jameson (a retired primary school teacher) were interviewed as potential candidates to teach English at the crèche.
